By reaching 100 km with a single fixed-wavelength optic, the module avoids the cost and complexity of DWDM transponders and amplification on routes that fit inside the CWDM budget. Long-wave channels like 1470 nm ride the upper half of the 1270~1610 nm plan, leaving room for many services on one fiber pair. For inter-city spurs and extended regional rings, this is the longest CWDM reach tier before DWDM becomes necessary.
