Overview

The F-tone Networks FT-1G-4 is a 1000BASE-T GBIC transceiver for Gigabit Ethernet over copper cabling. It provides a full-duplex gigabit uplink or downlink on legacy platforms that still use GBIC slots, protecting switches and routers that have not yet moved to SFP. The copper interface connects over standard twisted-pair runs within wiring-closet distances, which keeps short-reach gigabit links inexpensive and simple to cable. Installation follows the familiar GBIC hot-swap routine, so technicians can add or replace the module without powering down equipment. It is a practical option for maintaining and extending installed GBIC-based networks in enterprise and industrial environments.
