Overview

The FT-GBIC-GE31-EX is a gigabit media converter card from F-tone Networks that links copper Ethernet to long-reach single-mode fiber. It transports 1.25Gbps traffic through dual-fiber SC ports using a 1310nm DFB laser, reaching up to 40km with receive sensitivity better than -22dBm. The copper side auto-negotiates 10/100/1000Mbps, so existing switches connect without reconfiguration. Power input accepts DC 5–12V with built-in conversion, keeping total draw below 3W. The compact 112.8 × 77.2 × 23 mm footprint fits chassis-based installations and tight cabinets. With IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3z compliance, the card gives network builders a dependable building block for extending gigabit Ethernet across campuses, metro access rings and industrial sites.
