100G QSFP28 BiDi 1311/1291nm 20km Module

Overview

The FT-QSFP28-BIDI-20KR closes the 20-kilometer BiDi loop, transmitting at 1311 nm and receiving at 1291 nm on a single strand of single-mode fiber. Paired with the 1291 nm transmit module at the remote end, it keeps each 100 Gb/s channel to one fiber through a simplex LC connector. Twenty kilometers is the sweet spot for metro access aggregation, where central offices and aggregation nodes sit too far apart for short-reach optics yet too close for a full long-haul module. The QSFP28 hot-pluggable housing fits standard 100G ports. By halving fiber usage per 100G link, the 20KR leaves operators with a spare strand on every route for protection switching or future growth.
