1.25G GBIC CWDM 24dB Optical Transceiver

Overview

The FT-4178 is a 1.25 Gbps CWDM GBIC transceiver built for multiplexed single-mode links, rated at a 24 dB optical power budget. As part of a coarse wavelength division multiplexing system, it lets several independent 1.25 Gbps channels share one fiber pair through passive mux/demux units — multiplying capacity without laying new cable.

The 24 dB budget covers mid-length CWDM spans, tolerating more connector, splice and mux/demux insertion loss than lower-budget members of the family. Housed in the hot-swappable GBIC package, the module slots into existing equipment and joins the CWDM grid alongside its channel neighbors for metro aggregation duty.
