Overview

The FT-80KM-1550-6 is a 1.25 Gbps GBIC optical transceiver operating at 1550 nm over single-mode fiber, rated for distances of up to 80 km. It covers the classic metro-to-regional gap: city-wide rings, suburban aggregation links and inter-site backbones where 10 km parts fall short but full long-haul budgets are unnecessary.

By transmitting in the low-loss 1550 nm window, the module reaches 80 km on ordinary single-mode cable plant. The hot-swappable GBIC form factor keeps deployment simple — it seats into the same slots as every other GBIC on the shelf — so network teams can mix reaches across ports and upgrade individual spans without downtime or card swaps.
