0-30dB Single-Channel Micro MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator

The FT-3954 from F-tone Networks is a single-channel micro MEMS variable optical attenuator for next generation dynamically configurable optical networks. A movable mirror on the silicon MEMS chip steers the input laser beam onto the output fiber, and the applied voltage controls the mirror tilt angle to set the desired attenuation from 0 to 30 dB. Operating wavelength spans 1260 to 1620 nm with a 5 V drive voltage. Maximum insertion loss is 0.7 dB and polarization dependent loss stays within 0.15 dB. The hermetically sealed micro package measures 16 x Phi5.4 mm, operates from -5 to 70 degrees C and consumes only 10 mW.
